Mr Baldocci

Mr Baldocci is a music-theatre spectacle for acting pianist, answerphone machine, stereo, and stage props conceived and composed by Simone Spagnolo.

Constellated by a multitude of musical memories, fragments, citations, and interrupted beginnings sourced from the cultivated and popular past, Mr Baldocci portrays a nameless man looking for his own identity, which ultimately reveals to be manifold and inconsistent.

Memories, fragments and citations, through poly-stylistic interweaving, draw from collective and individual musical memories to eventually capture a liquid identity, forming a metaphorical representation of our contemporary post-truth condition.

This spectacle is inspired and performed by internationally acclaimed pianist Gabriele Baldocci

Written between 2022 and 2024, Mr Baldocci, was first premiered in Lawrence Hall, London College of Music, as part of the 2025 LCM Composition Festival (University of West London).

UWL News, 2025
This was a really exciting experiment in music theatre, showing what is possible in the hinterland between more conventional musical theatre and performance. There were some incredibly rich and evocative textures created, which immersed the audience into the existentialist questions posed by the piece
